Project Intergalactic Quest

Ice Block States
I have my own planet called Ice Block States. In my own world the people wear clothes, shoes and houses made out of ice blocks and there are no houses there are only ice palaces! In Ice Block States all the mountains, grounds and plants are made out of ice. All the animals at Ice Block States have fun eating ice blocks. The sea at my planet is frozen and the plants are full of ice. If you see my planet from space you can just see bright coloured ice. At my planet I am the queen of the place and I have a volcano and when it explodes ice blocks come out and then all my people eat the ice blocks. My planet has an ice skating rink and the ice skates and the blades are made out of ice. We have a mountain called Ice Blocks Deluxe and it is made with crushed ice and the ice is then flavoured with our national drink icy deluxe. The vehicles are all made out of ice and all the drinks and foods are only melted ice blocks - are the drinks and  ice blocks- are the food. My planet is obviously -100 degrees (minus 100 degrees). I love my planet.

The third candle of Advent is the candle of love. The message of the third candle is that God gave his only son Jesus because he loves us a lot.

The fourth candle is the peace candle. The candle of peace’s message is that Jesus is the prince of peace.

Saint Mary Mother of God

Saint Mary Mother of God
Saint Mary Mother of God
Feast Days:Birth on 8 September, Annunciation on 25 March, Assumption on 15 August.

The Virgin Mary’s Story:
Mary listened to God’s call when she was chosen to be the Mother of God. She is singled out of all saints because she was and is full of grace. This is why when we say the “Hail Mary” we say “Hail Mary full of grace”. “Let it happen as you have  said “ she said “I am the Lord’s servant”. Mary was young and unmarried but she still obeyed God for she still became the Mother of God. She was a caring parent for her son but was really sad when she saw her son suffering and when he died on the cross. Mary is an example of inner strength and humble obedience. She is known over the whole world because she obeyed God’s call for being the Mother of the Saviour of the whole world.

Christopher Columbus

Christopher Columbus
Christopher Columbus was a sailor, he was travelling to India around the tip of Africa and it was difficult and dangerous. He thought that if they sailed west they would reach eastern Asia. For seven years Columbus travelled around Europe looking for someone to finance his Journey. Finally he reached Spain. Spain had been in civil war for many years. King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella said that they could be as calm as Portugal (Their neighbour). In 1492 he was given his supplies, men and ships. He was given three ships Nina, The Pinta and Santa Maria. His men were scared  that they would get lost at sea and suffer starvation. As the days went by the men turned against him. They said that if they don’t find land in three days they would they would make him turn the ship back to their country. As the night of the second day he was thinking about turning back the next day but he then saw an island in the Caribbean. The named it Hispanolia. He did not know that he was in another part of the world but he was said to that he was in India. He called the native people of the Island the Indians. He travelled three times to America believing that it was India. During his life he never found out what he discovered.

A fish caught that has human teeth

A fish with “human teeth”
In Russia a fisherman has caught a fish that has human teeth! Biologists have researched on this fish and have found out that it’s called a Pacus. But the Pacus is not the only fish with human teeth. The sheepshead fish is another fish with human teeth. Believe it or not the Pacus fish is related to the Piranha family but is not as ferocious as a piranha. The Pacus swallows small fish and has molars. The displacement of the fish is caused by humans putting the Pacus in different parts of the world.

Sea turtles

The Plight of  the Sea Turtles
The sea turtles have swum with the dinosaurs a billion years ago. There use to be many species in the past but now there are only 7 species left.

The reason why sea turtles are endangered is because people are killing them and then do illegal things with them. The only reason that sea turtles are getting extinct is not only the reason that people are killing them it is also because sea turtles get tangled up in nets and they sometimes choke on plastic bags and things made out of plastic.

But there is a solution to this problem. We can pick up plastic bags, look after the beaches, stop disturbing places where sea turtles lay their eggs and where they live and the most important way to stop this is to stop buying things from the black market  made out of turtle shells.

The lobster, which has been named “Skyler” will now be donated to the Maine State Aquarium. Normally lobsters are very dark blue or a greenish brown. This lobster has a genetic mutation, resulting to its unusual colour. Scientists believed that the bright blue colouring is unusual and this happens only one out of every 2 million lobsters. Finding China

Finding China
Hello I am Shania I am living in New Zealand. I have seen pictures of China and I have always wanted to go to Shanghai in China. One day my family and I went to China for a holiday I saw Shanghai and tasted the different types of foods. I have seen the different types of clothes. And the people in China speak Mandarin! I could not talk Mandarin a lot I knew just a little. Afterwards I got use to Mandarin! China is a country close to India, Japan and America and at the top of China is Russia. The Great Wall of China  is a fortification 1,500 miles long built across northern China in the 3rd century BC; it averages 6 meters in width. The chinese food includes Chinese cuisine, styles coming from the diverse regions of China, plus styles of Chinese culture. Afterwards we had to go back to Auckland.

Keep your Word

Keep your word (Indian legend)
Once upon a time, in the royal city of Kalinga there lived an old woodcutter and his  young daughter. Everyday the woodcutter would go into the woods to gather wood, and he would then go and sell it in the market. In this way he could afford the clothes, food, water and shelter. The next morning, his daughter asked her father "father, we have the money for all the food but it would be nice to have something special" the father replied "I think that I can do that.

So the next day the woodcutter went out to the woods for a longer time so he could gather more wood, but when the woodcutter had finished gathering all the firewood he needed...... dark had fallen. There was no time to sell the wood in the market and there was a suprise when he got home.... when he knocked on the door nobody answered, so he decided to sleep outside. When it was morning the woodcutter got up and he saw that it was still dark so he said "I will go early so I can comeback early and when he finished gathering the wood again dark had fallen so he went home and then once again he knocked on the door and nobody answered, so again he decided to sleep outside. But he was so upset that he sobbed and sobbed.

Then a really big suprise came before him, a Goddess appeared before his eyes and he said "am I dreaming or is it real and the Goddess replied "why are you crying" and he said "mother for 2 days I have gone out to gather thorn bushes and I came home late and now I am very hungry". So the Goddess took out some peanuts from her pockets and she said "share this with me". And then she dissapeared.

When she had gone the door to his house had opened. The next morning his daughter had gone for a walk and just then a carriage stopped by her and a princess came out and said "what a pretty girl, do you want to be my handmaiden" and she said "yes, your highness". Then the princess wanted to go for a swim and they both couldn't swim so the princess took of her jewl’s and just threw water on herself. So when she came out, the princess forgot to put on her necklace and left it. The next afternoon the she accused the woodcutter’s daughter of stealing her necklace and she said what should I do to people like you, get away from me. The woodcutter’s daughter ran away in tears.

Then 2 guards came into the big house of the woodcutters and the woodcutter was sent to prison.Just then the the woodcutter  remembered what the Goddess said "if you want your good fortune to continue, every week find someone in need" and the woodcutter said "oh mother, please forgive this ungrateful man". When the princess went for a swim the next day she found her necklace and said "oh this is a great mistake, the girl was innocent after all" so the woodcutter was let out of prison, and from that day the woodcutter always found someone in need and then everyone lived happily ever after.

Boys jumping off

Boys jumping off
As I walk on the bridge, I see 2 boys who are going to jump into the sea. But they have not yet jumped into the water. The road is so busy and I can smell the air that is getting polluted by the cars and because of that I am getting a cough. I can also smell the salty water that just drifts by. The water is very calm so I think that the boys should take the plunge. The 2 boys are getting ready to jump into the water but I don’t see why they are not going to jump into the water yet. I can hear the sound of the water splashing and the cars that pass by. I can see that the boys have not yet jumped into the water and I don’t know why they are so scared. I see a wharf that is right beside the bridge and I think that it will be easier for the boys to jump from the wharf then from the bridge, because the wharf is lower to jump from then the bridge. I think that the boys are thinking whether or not to jump in the water. The boys might be feeling scared to take that big plunge. I can hear the birds that are flying over the bridge to find food. Now the boys are just playing on the bridge and having fun! I am still wondering whether or not if the boys are going to jump from the bridge. The sound of all the seagulls that fly over the sea looking for fish is very loud. Now the time to go home has come. I am going to keep on wondering if the boys will take the big plunge to jump into the water or if some waves are going to scare them.

And dingo said, “bugs? okay then in it goes”. When the water was good enough for the wombat stew, dingo tasted the water and then….. ahhh ewwww. And the animals laughed and laughed and said “we tricked you dingo”. And then dingo never did anything like that ever again. The End.

Ballerina Wishes

Ballerina Wishes
Natasha is one of Zavania’s most popular ballerinas. This book is about Natasha one of Zavania’s most popular ballerinas and Maddie who goes for ballet classes. But the theatre is in trouble, and so is Natasha and her partner has vanished! Can Maddie and Sebastian travel into the frozen north to find him?

Te Taha wai Marae

Te  Taha wai
Marae
Yesterday Rms. 2, 3 and 5 went to Te Ta Tawhai Marae. After we got out of the bus we got into our positions and walked towards the marae. We had to stop half-way to remember those who had died. Then the tangata whenua came to meet our teachers and the students. After that the tangata whenua went back to the marae and she then did a karanga outside the marae. Then we took off our shoes because that is one of the protocols and also because the marae is sacred.

The boys had to sit in the front and the girls sit at the back. We also had a speech after everybody was seated. After the speeches we had some songs and then had a hongi. After the hongi we had the washing of hands and we then had to go to the Whare kai. Then it was my marae. We then had some activities. They taught us how to weave also. We learnt an action song and we then we had to do our own panels. We had to see all the panels in the marae and we would get to do our own patterns on the paper panels that we got. Then the teacher from room 5 had a speech to say to the owners of the land. Then the girls had to be on the left side of the marae and the boys on the right side. And we did our last song. The boys then did a haka and we then had to put on our shoes and get on the bus.

Phases of the Moon

Phases of the moon
There are 8 phases of the moon. The 8 phases of the moon are new, waning crescent, 1st  quarter, waxing gibbous, full, waning gibbous, last quarter and waxing crescent and the moon has a different shape as seen in a different  hemisphere. The moon is the natural satellite of the Earth.
New moon-when you see the new moon you can't see the moon at all.
waning crescent-when you look at the moon in the waning crescent shape it's only 1 quarter of the full moon.
1st quarter-the 1st quarter is a half of the full moon.
waxing gibbous-the waxing gibbous is 3 quarters of the full moon.
full-the full moon is a whole circle and it is the most beautiful phase among all of the phases of the moon.
waning gibbous-the waning gibbous is like the waxing gibbous but for this phase the quarter right of the full moon isn't seen.
last quarter-the last quarter is same as the 1st quarter but for the last quarter half  of the right side isn't seen.
waxing crescent-the waning crescent is like the waning crescent is something like the waning crescent but this time the left quarter of the moon is seen.

Bad girls
This book is about Mandy and her biggest fear Kim. Kim teams up with two girls and one of them was Mandy’s ex-friend. When the three bullies team up and go up to Mandy, Mandy gets terrified and gives Kim a slap. But before that happened everyone of those bullies insulted Mandy’s parents and then Mandy says that those are not her real parents and her real parents are rich, thin and good looking people because her real parents are fat and not good looking people. But Mandy gave Kim a slap because she had insulted her parents and what Mandy said about her real parents are not her real parents, one of the bullies said “liar liar, pants on fire” and because Mandy was wearing a dress and then Kim starts laughing and says “oh pants Mandy lets see what colour pants you have” and then Kim lifts up Mandy’s dress and she says “oh, so cute little pink dots with bunnies and thats why Mandy gives a slap. But then Kim gets so angry that she scares Mandy. But then Mandy gets so terrified that she runs onto the road and then bam!.......... Mandy bangs into a bus and then the bullies run of. I think this book should be rated G and a little bit of M because of the violence and ages 8-16. Rating 4 stars

Cork oaks grow best in hot sunny places like Spain, south of France and Africa. There are two very different type of cork. The inside of the cork oak is up and down. The outside of the cork oak is growing cork.Cork is really spongy so it doesnt sink in water.Cork is good for making the fishing rods, rod. It is also used inside cricket balls and soft balls. Its cork is really strong so it doesnt soak out water.Once a cork oak is twenty years old its cork can be pealed off.

Cows

Life on a dairy farm

When the cow is ready to be born the cow stands up.

When the calf  is  born the calf tries to stand up.

next the calf drinks the milk its mothers udder.

then the farmer checks that the calf and its mother are fine.

After that the calf is kept in a warm shed with the other calves.

In the shed the calves are always hungry.

Calves are greedy at first and always want more and more milk.

Once calves grow older they nibble more on grass.

They eat more grass and drink less milk as they grow older.

They also drink clean,fresh water
Young calves grow tiny horns.Their horns are removed or disbudded by a hot iron.

They get an injection so they dont get lnfected.

Now the calves will not throw sharp horns, insted they will play nicely with other calves.

The farmers get the best female calves to become milking cows.

Dairy calves are kept, they are called hie fer.

The horwagrsquir is a mixture of a horse, an wapiti and ground squirrel made by me on swithzoo.com. A horse eats a small amount of food everyday because they have a small stomach. A horse lives on a farm. A horse survives by eating grass, running when his predators come to eat him. A horse adapts by using its mouth to eat grass. A wapiti eats grass or whatever it finds to eat. A wapiti lives outdoors in a forest. A wapiti survives by finding its food to eat. A wapiti adapts by finding its food. A squirrel eats nuts and  lives on a tree.

My Dream is to become a Dancer

My Dream is to become  a Dancer
When I grow up I would like to be a dancer because I like dancing. I have always  loved to dance and because I have once participated in a dance competition with a dance group and we came third place. Some people think that dancing is like singing, but it isn’t, dancing is moving to music not singing music.
I come to like dancing because I have participated in three dance competitions and so I believe in myself.  There are different types of dancing such as contemperary, salsa, free-style and break dance. Hip-Hop is a type of dance that uses stunts such as cart-wheel, hand stand, head stand and flips. Some people think that dancing is rubbish, they say who wants to dance but for me dancing is the best thing in the whole of planet earth. My dream to become a dancer started when I was 5 years old. I want to dance as a cheerleader for a game. Since I would like to be a dancer when I grow up, I will go for dance classes and follow my dream to become a dancer. I’ve danced six times in 3 years and if I ever become a dancer it will be a really big dream come true. Dancing is my big hobby I want to do in the future and I am considering singing too.

Science Showcase

Science Showcase

Yesterday we had a science showcase.Rms.1,2,3,4,5 and 6 did 1 to 3 science experiments and projects.
I liked yesterdays science showcase because it had really interesting experiments and projects and we could try using each of them.
I found the simple circuits and the lava lamp interesting because (Simple circuits) the wires were broken and when I joined them together the light would light up and (Lava Lamp) when a tablet would be dropped into the lava lamp the lava would all come up to the top.
I learn something new from the simple circuits because that was the first time I joined two wires together and a light would light up and when I saw a lava lamp that was made by students, and I have seen a ready made  lava lamp, but this was the first time that I saw a lava lamp made by students, and their lava lamps lava come up to the top.
I would like to have one of this next time because I would like to see more projects and experiments.
