Keep your Word

Keep your word (Indian legend)
Once upon a time, in the royal city of Kalinga there lived an old woodcutter and his  young daughter. Everyday the woodcutter would go into the woods to gather wood, and he would then go and sell it in the market. In this way he could afford the clothes, food, water and shelter. The next morning, his daughter asked her father "father, we have the money for all the food but it would be nice to have something special" the father replied "I think that I can do that.

So the next day the woodcutter went out to the woods for a longer time so he could gather more wood, but when the woodcutter had finished gathering all the firewood he needed...... dark had fallen. There was no time to sell the wood in the market and there was a suprise when he got home.... when he knocked on the door nobody answered, so he decided to sleep outside. When it was morning the woodcutter got up and he saw that it was still dark so he said "I will go early so I can comeback early and when he finished gathering the wood again dark had fallen so he went home and then once again he knocked on the door and nobody answered, so again he decided to sleep outside. But he was so upset that he sobbed and sobbed.

Then a really big suprise came before him, a Goddess appeared before his eyes and he said "am I dreaming or is it real and the Goddess replied "why are you crying" and he said "mother for 2 days I have gone out to gather thorn bushes and I came home late and now I am very hungry". So the Goddess took out some peanuts from her pockets and she said "share this with me". And then she dissapeared.

When she had gone the door to his house had opened. The next morning his daughter had gone for a walk and just then a carriage stopped by her and a princess came out and said "what a pretty girl, do you want to be my handmaiden" and she said "yes, your highness". Then the princess wanted to go for a swim and they both couldn't swim so the princess took of her jewl’s and just threw water on herself. So when she came out, the princess forgot to put on her necklace and left it. The next afternoon the she accused the woodcutter’s daughter of stealing her necklace and she said what should I do to people like you, get away from me. The woodcutter’s daughter ran away in tears.

Then 2 guards came into the big house of the woodcutters and the woodcutter was sent to prison.Just then the the woodcutter  remembered what the Goddess said "if you want your good fortune to continue, every week find someone in need" and the woodcutter said "oh mother, please forgive this ungrateful man". When the princess went for a swim the next day she found her necklace and said "oh this is a great mistake, the girl was innocent after all" so the woodcutter was let out of prison, and from that day the woodcutter always found someone in need and then everyone lived happily ever after.
